For my Media Production Senior Seminar project, I got to work closely with Chaplain Rev. Derek Wadlington. We decided to rebrand Chapel Services to better fit his vision and personality, and create three promotional videos for social media. The goal of this project was to introduce and increase his presence on campus while showcasing the skills that I learned in Media Production.

MU-sings with the Chaplain

One of our first tasks was to rebrand the Chapel Services that Orbit Media has been airing on the radio every Thursday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. since 2020. When we first sat down to discuss his vision for what the new Chapel Services would be like, we wanted it to feel more like a conversation instead of a traditional Chapel Service.

Chaplain Derek came up with MU-sings with The Chaplain as the new name, with the MU standing for Muskingum University. Once we had a name, we discussed the show’s 30-minute format. The show’s format consisted of a reading of his choosing and how it relates to a specific part of life, and I would ask a question at the end that students asked.

Once we had a new name and a format, it was time for a new logo, as well as a new intro and outro! I designed and drew the logo myself using Procreate. I picked the music that I thought fit Rev. Wadlington and recorded the new intro and outro.

Promotional Videos

As for the second part of this project, I wrote, filmed, and edited three one-minute promotional videos that Rev. Wadlington to post on social media.

Video 1 – Meet the Chaplain

The first video is a sit-down interview with Chaplain Derek to serve as an introduction to who he is and his goal for being the Chaplain at Muskingum University, while also explaining what a Chaplain is. I then took the fourteen minutes of footage, edited it down to one minute, and intercut B-roll footage of him walking around campus and interacting with students and faculty.

Video 2 – Spiritual Life on Campus

The second video is about what drew Chaplain Derek to Muskingum University. I pulled the audio from the interview with Chaplain Derek and used B-roll footage I took from various days of filming around campus.

Video 3 – What Do You Want People To Say About You?

The third and final video is based on a conversation from an episode of MU-sings with The Chaplain that aired on March 7th, 2024. I chose to pull this quote from this particular episode because I felt that it was inspirational and really summarizes who Chaplain Derek is as a person, while also promoting MU-sings with The Chaplain.
