For costuming, I learned how to sew multiple different stitches, and how to use a sewing machine.
First is the running stitch. Take a needle and thread and tie the end of the thread so it won’t go through the fabric. Then, push the needle through one side of the fabric. Do the same thing over and over again until you get the the end. Tie off the thread and cut of the excess with scissors.

Next, the basting stitch. Similar to the running stitch, except this is used as a temporary stitch.
Now, the back stitch. The back stitch is used as a permanent stitch. You basically double up the stitches you just made and they’re connected.
Next are how to sew on different buttons. The 2-hole button stitch is when you stick the needle through the fabric and one hole and into the other. The same applies to the 4-hole stitch, except after sewing the first two holes, you switch to the other side.
For the shank button, just push the needle and thread through the fabric, through the hole, and back through the fabric.

For the last two stitches, fold your fabric onto one side and iron it down.
For the whip stitch, sew on the side that’s folded and the side that’s not folded.
For the sewing machine, wind up the thread into the bobbin and place it in the place where the bobbin goes. Thread the thread through the things and then through the needle. Then, press your foot on the peddle and move the fabric and the needle sews.
