Production Hours

As part of my grade in Technical Production, I had to have 20 hours of production work outside of class.

Unfortunately, I only took one photo during production hours because I was busy working and couldn’t have my phone out. So enjoy these sketches I drew to recreate some of what I did!

On Feb. 10, I was tasked to help fold and organized the costumes in the Costume Shop. It took a little longer than I originally signed up for, and I didn’t want to leave Harley and David to sort the rest of the costumes themselves. So, I stayed for two and a half hours to help finish organizing the costumes.

A recreation of the costumes all organized and in their appropriate boxes.

Then on Feb. 25, I was tasked with cleaning the stage. First, we got some brooms and swept the stage. We then have to sweep all the dust and dirt into the dustpan so Kacie could throw the dust into a trash can. Once that was done, we just mopped the stage until it was spotless.

On Mar. 3, we went on a little field trip to the storage space where Cassie keeps the extra platforms, doors, doorframes, and stairs that the crew has made over the years. We basically just took things out one by one until we got everything we needed. Once we had all the stairs, doors, doorframes, and platforms we needed, we loaded everything into two trucks at drove back to the theatre.

This is suppose to be me carrying a platform, but I didn’t feel like coloring anything in because I was a little lazy and wanted these done.

Once we got back and carried everything onto the stage, we modified the platforms to make sure they were stable by putting beams under them.

On Mar. 5, I helped build legs for the platforms.

On Mar. 10, I helped make the platforms and squares for the stage from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Then the next day, I cleaned and prepped the stage for paint since I kind of messed up the taping of the cords to the microphones and the paint came off of the stage.

The only photographic evidence that I was actually doing production hours.

Then two day later, I helped with gel inventory. Me, Savannah, and later Ragan, were given a list of colors and shades of gel lights that were needed for the show. At first I was a little confused with how the gel sheets were organized, so I just re-organized them as I went. We were finding it a little difficult to find all the gel sheets that were on the list and the sizes, but we eventually found almost all of them.

On. Mar. 17, I helped stack the platforms on top of each other to make a big stair case, kind of. Once they were in place, we screwed them. together so they wouldn’t shift when the actors walked on them. Then I helped Zac replace the legs of the platforms because they were too tall.

Me with the floating gel sheets because I’m slowly losing my mind.

And finally, on Mar. 20, I helped Jeanne gel the lights for most of my final three hours of work. We did have to make new sheets by either cutting pieces to fit or by taping them together. Once that was done, I spent my last hour or so building beams with Zac, David, and Harley.

And that’s it! That’s what I did with my production hours!
